POSITION PURPOSE AND EXAMPLES OF WORK:
POSITION PURPOSE: To design, implement, troubleshoot, analyze and maintain LAN/MAN/WAN equipment and related services, performing complex technical duties involved with client/server and network infrastructure hardware and software.

Management reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities, work shift/schedule, facility, or department to meet business and organizational needs as necessary, including, but not limited to the re-assignment of employees and positions, elimination of positions, and opening, moving, or closing of facilities and units.
) 45% - Manage overall network for optimal performance.
· Design, install and configure network and security infrastructure and monitoring tools, including network switches, routers, firewalls, intrusion/detection/prevention systems.
· Ensure all network traffic is correctly routed through router support and configuration, by upgrading and configuring proper protocols and connectivity, which also involves remote sites and wireless components; · Maintain network security by opening/closing ports, and performing configurations and upgrades for Internet Work Operation System; · Install edge switches and routers which includes Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN) and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP).
35% - Monitor network hardware and traffic, identify and correct system failures and outages, deploy system changes and enhancements.
· Monitor network traffic through software tools and take preventive measures to avoid traffic slowdown or failure in networked applications.
· Monitor network switches for port and wireless controller outages.
· Troubleshoot and take corrective actions as necessary.
· Interact with vendors and research knowledge base systems for research, problem resolution and changes implementation.
· Provide technical direction to IT staff and advise of network implementations, modifications, etc.

· Respond to calls during off-duty hours to resolve problems, which may involve travel to work site.
20% - Assist in defining plans for future automation needs and participate in budget process.
Prepare reports and perform related duties.
· Provide input and recommendations for immediate, short-term, and long term needs and objectives, both departmental and court-wide, with respect to network infrastructure.
· Research and evaluate products, service and emerging technologies to stay current on industry trends and development.
SUPERVISION OF: None.
SUPERVISION BY: Manager, Networking & Support provides general supervision.
Work monitored by results of assignments and projects, deadlines met, and meetings.
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY: INTERNAL: All levels of Court staff.
Provides for and maintains network connections and installations to external and internal users.
Troubleshoots and resolves connection problems.
EXTERNAL: Various Jackson County departments and partner agencies, including Jackson County IT, Sheriff, and Prosecuting Attorney, Office of State Courts Administrator, and any other agencies with access to Court applications.
PRIMARY EQUIPMENT, TOOLS & MATERIALS USED: Computer and peripheral equipment, servers and storage devices, telephone, including use of voice mail, copier/printer/scanner/fax; technical manuals and guides, both paper and electronic, computer-generated and handwritten diagrams, forms, and reports.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (Education above the minimum stated may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required general experience; experience above the minimum stated may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.
) EDUCATION: Associate’s degree or Technical trade school in computer science, information technology, or a business related field, preferably with an emphasis in computer science course work.
EXPERIENCE: Three years directly related experience in Cisco network infrastructure design and support.
Experience must specifically include Cisco router support and configuration, Windows Operations Systems, Cisco Internet Work Operation System (IOS) and WAN/MAN/LAN administration.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: · Must submit to and pass criminal background check as prescribed by Courts.
