***This position will be in Kansas City, MO*** Primary Responsibilities: Advises the General Counsel and Senior Leadership in multiple areas of law primarily involving procurement, government contracts, and special projects as determined by the General Counsel.
Advises on the meaning and application of Department of Energy (DOE) /National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Prime Contract, legal, regulatory, and other government requirements under the general guidance of the General Counsel.
Performs a variety of legal assignments requiring the study and analysis of complex legal questions, problems, or cases.
Prepares legal opinions or other legal documents related to matters within the required disciplines, that may include major policy and compliance documents, work instructions, claims, or other matters in complicated factual situations that may lack clear, contractual requirements, agency regulations/directives and legal precedents.
May be required to work with outside counsel.
Receives general supervision from the General Counsel but conducts work with relative independence.
May review work of legal assistants/paralegal and other professionals within the Division and business.
May represent the company in front of the Government customers, administrative bodies and the Courts, although litigation is not anticipated to be a routine duty.
Conducts activities in a safe and secure manner in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment.
Takes actions necessary to "stop" work when an unsafe condition or action is identified.

Will be required to perform other duties, including practice in multiple areas of law, as necessary to support the business.
You Must Have: 9 or more years’ experience in one of the following legal disciplines: procurement, government contracts, and/or national security.
Bachelor's degree plus degree in law from an accredited law school.
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business.

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
We Value: Experience with procurement, government contracts, information/data privacy, workers compensation and intellectual property law.
Experience with ethics, security, HS&E (Health Safety and Environment), and DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) programs.
Some litigation experience is helpful.

Strongly prefer candidates with NNSA, DOE, or DOD experience either in a federal capacity (including military service) or with a major government contractor.

Negotiate and influence effectively, with the ability to push back and say “no” when necessary.
An ability to lead and influence people and organizations that do not report to you or the Law and Contracts department.
