Assistant Attorney General/Deputy Chief Counsel
Litigation - Kansas City
The Missouri Attorney General's Office is actively seeking attorneys with excellent credentials for an Assistant Attorney General/Deputy Chief Counsel position in the Litigation Section.
The Litigation Section defends the State, its employees, and/or officers in lawsuits.
The attorney's primary practice will be tort defense, Section 1983 claims, class actions, and claims requesting declaratory and injunctive relief.
The Deputy Chief Counsel will oversee several matters within the Litigation Section, including some appellate work, and serves as the Chief Counsel's delegate when the Chief is unavailable.
The Deputy Chief Counsel's main duty is to develop and implement critical litigation strategy for matters within the section and supervise team members on those matters accordingly.
The successful candidate may also be expected to serve as an attorney on matters.
This position may involve intermittent travel within Missouri for meetings or court appearances.
Preferred experience/skills:
5 years or more experience in civil defense litigation
State and Federal court experience
Excellent legal writing, oral advocacy, appellate, and litigation strategy skills

Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Missouri.
Candidates with relevant experience and education will be considered for an interview.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
