Job Description:
The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/ Kansas City, Kansas Legal Department is located in downtown Kansas City, Kansas in City Hall.
The Legal Department, under the direction of the Chief Counsel, provides legal services to the Mayor, Board of Commissioners, County Administrator, boards, and all departments of the Unified Government and the Board of Public Utilities, the local water and electric utility.
The Chief Counsel is appointed by the County Administrator
The Municipal Court Prosecutor’s Office, a division of the Legal Department, consists of two attorneys, a program specialist, and an administrative support specialist.
Staff attorneys prosecute violations of Unified Government ordinances in Municipal Court and assist victims of ordinance violations.
The Legal Department seeks a legal intern to prosecute violations of the Municipal Code, provide research support in civil litigation, and assist in the drafting and review of policies.
The Legal Department will provide mentorship, training, and exposure to many aspects of municipal law in Kansas, including prosecution, civil litigation, planning and zoning, economic development, sewer, water, and electric utilities, ordinance and resolution drafting and passage, contract drafting and review, condemnations, construction of public buildings, etc.
Rule 719 license in Kansas preferred.
Qualifications: Must be a current law school student.
Salary Range:
$20/hr.
