Purpose Statement The job of Director of Safety and Security is done for the purpose/s of leading, developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety and security programs for the school district.
This role involves collaborating with school administrators, staff, and local law enforcement agencies to create a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and visitors.
This job reports to Chief Operations Officer Essential Functions Collaborates with school administrators, local law enforcement, relevant agencies, and other key stakeholders for the purpose of establishing short and long-term safety and security goals.
Conducts regular risk assessments for the purpose of identifying potential threats and vulnerabilities.
Coordinates and implements district-wide safety and security trainings (e.
g.
Active Shooter, Critical Incident Management, etc.
) for the purpose of fostering a culture of awareness and vigilance throughout the district.
Coordinates after hours response to alarm calls and/or safety and security related issues for the purpose of prompt and appropriate action.
Develops, implements and updates emergency response plans for various scenarios (e.
g.
lockdowns, evacuations, medical emergencies, etc.
) for the purpose of proper and timely action and notification of safety and security incidents to district leadership, and other parties as needed.
Ensures regular pick-up and bank deposits of monies collected at schools and the district administration center for the purpose of depositing collected funds in a timely and safe manner.
Facilitates meetings that may frequently involve a range of issues (e.
g.
personnel actions, financial procedures, regulatory requirements, community involvement, actions involving outside agencies, interdepartmental needs, etc.
) for the purpose of identifying appropriate actions, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a district representative.
Manages and maintains the No Trespass List for the purpose of ensuring safety and security within the school district buildings.
Manages the release of surveillance camera footage for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state and federal laws.
Oversees the installation and maintenance of safety and security systems, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and radio systems, for the purpose of creating a safe and secure environment across all district buildings.
Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Performs personnel administrative functions (e.
g.
hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, coaching, providing professional development opportunities, etc.
) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and ensuring department/program outcomes are achieved.
Recommends and enforces safety and security policies, procedures and protocols for the purpose of ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to school safety and security.
Serves as the point of contact for emergency services and law enforcement during incidents for the purpose of keeping all parties informed.
Supervises work and workplace safety and security standards for the purpose of ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and developing a program of preventive safety and security on a districtwide basis.
Supervises department functions (e.
g.
hiring/termination recommendations, coordinating safety and security staff training activities, managing department budget, approving purchase orders, advising, consulting, etc.
) for the purpose of ensuring that the department functions in a safe and efficient manner.
Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: customer service; effective listening; public speaking; facilitating meetings; interpersonal aptitude; leadership; problem solving; supervision; and training.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; current and emerging technology; and safety and security practices.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment.
Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.
Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.
Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate.
Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communication with persons of diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills; confidentiality; decision making; physical stamina; teamwork; multi-tasking and working flexible hours.

Utilization of significant resources from other work units is sometimes required to perform the job's functions.

Work Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity.
Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, 30% standing.
The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
