Description
The Safety Intern will assist the Corporate Safety & Health department on compliance issues for Burns & McDonnell employees, Subcontractors, and Clients in the California Offices and at construction sites throughout California and associated states where the California offices manage construction projects.
This position will require a proactive and collaborative approach to safety for multiple levels within the organization, as well as proactive and collaborative support for internal and external Safety & Health policies and procedures.
This position will require strong dedication to State and Federal OSHA compliance.
Assist project site Safety & Health, corporate and regional office personnel in the implementation of the site specific Safety & Health programs, goals, safety policies and procedures.
Assist in maintaining compliance applicable to the Local, State, and Federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
Assist project Safety & Health walk-through assessments with all project safety representatives to verify assessments are completed on time and entered at the corporate level.
Monitor the Project Safety & Health Program documentation requirements; and assist with assessments for the corporate Safety & Health Management team from the project site.
Assist with Safety Committees
Assist with internal social media sites/webpages.
Assist in maintaining Safety & Health compliance in regard to OSHA logs, corporate policies, incident investigation, injury case management tool, training, and personal protective equipment distribution.
Assist in the development and implementation of corporate Safety & Health initiatives and plans.
Assist with industrial hygiene sampling (area and/or personal sampling) and preparation of initial report writing.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
A qualified candidate for this position will possess a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or relevant degree; applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Basic knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Construction, and General Industry Regulations, America National Standards Institution (ANSI), National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), Army Corps of Engineers (CoE), Engineers Manual 385-1,, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and National Electrical Code (NEC) Standards.
Completion of/or ability to obtain OSHA 10 and/or 30 Hour Construction Outreach Safety Training Course.
Proficient with Windows-based platform and computer skills.
This position requires driving to various locations; a valid driver's license is required.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
