POSITION SUMMARY ("What are we looking for?") As a Senior Cost Accountant at The Honest Kitchen, you will play a key role in analyzing and managing our cost accounting processes.
You will be responsible for ensuring accurate inventory records, product costing, analyzing cost variances, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments and third-party partners.
Our desired location for this role would be in the Kansas City and surrounding areas with the majority of travel within the Midwest but we are open to remote work! SCOPE OF POSITION Develop and maintain costing models for our products/services.
Maintain, analyze, and update bill of materials for Work in Process (WIP) and Finished Goods.
Manage end to end inventory accounting process by working with Operations, Procurement, and third-party partners to ensure accurate inventory records.
Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing expected costs to actual production costs.
Participate in month-end and year-end close activities related to cost accounting.
Prepare and analyze cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory reports.
Investigate and explain variances between actual costs and expectations.
Collaborate with operations and procurement teams to optimize cost efficiency and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Support financial planning and budgeting processes by providing accurate cost forecasts.
Conduct profitability analysis on products and projects to drive business decisions.
Strengthen controls and compliance surrounding the inventory accounting processes via improved internal control and reconciliation processes for audits and bank exams.
Ability to autonomously resolve inventory accounting issues and communicate results with management.
Lead automation and transformation efforts of inventory accounting processes.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (“What are we looking for?”) Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Proven experience (5+ years) in cost accounting within a manufacturing or similar industry.
Strong proficiency in cost accounting principles and practices.
Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
Solid understanding of inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with cross-functional teams.
Travel up to 15%.
